| 内容記述 | In Omi and Chikuhoku villages in Higashichikuma district of Nagano Prefecture, there are households where the family members don't have any custom to eat rice cakes on the New Year’s Day. The present study aimed to clarify the current situation of this custom through the use of a questionnaire survey for the junior high school students, direct observation of how people spend the end of the year and New Year’s Day, and interviews of the female farmers who know the local food culture well. The result of questionnaire of junior high school students (N=104), showed that 56 students do not eat rice cakes on the New Year’s Day. Among those 56, 49 students responded that they eat rice cakes on other days. The observation and interviews clarified that people avoid breaking this custom, particularly many homes with healthy elderly people try to protect the custom. Even if the custom not to eat rice cakes on New Year’s Day is kept within the household, some junior high school students didn’t know the reason for this custom. Thus, in order to hand down the local food culture to the next generation, it is suggested that there is a need to educate the meaning and significance of the custom to young people by families, schools and the community. |
