Same as other islands in South Pacific region, traditional food in Solomon Islands were domestic products, root crop staples, green and other vegetables, animal foods, fishes, nuts and fruits. Recently, the extension of taking imported food and processed food changed the traditional food pattern. Also the kitchen equipments and utencils have been modernized in urban households and even rural households because of increase of cash income. These changes are different depending on habitat and degree of culture change. With the modernization of dietary life style, Soloman Islands has been faced with a variety of new physical and nutritional problems. In order to solve these problems, the Solomon Islands government established strategies for health promotion.
