We visited two agricultural villages and one fishing village and met six elderly people in their house. We also met such various persons related to the social supports as visiting nurses, home helpers, allied governmental officers and so on.\nWe found that lives of the elderly people were maintained by mainly following factors.\n1. The support system by person is well organized. Collaboration among a nurse, a \nHome-helper, a medical doctor, a personnel working such various facilities as a day-center, elders’ house, and so on are taken well.\n2. An administrative organ is lending various such tooIs and furniture to help daily life behaviors of elderly people as an electromotive wheelchair, a bed that a posture change is easy, a tooI which can take the thing lying on the floor, a tooI which makes easy to open a milk pack, and so on.\n3. Elderly people themselves are thinking and behaving to live even if alone. They have such mental toughness. This makes establishing of the social support system relatively easy.\nThe most importance is that the fundamental principle concerning what kind of life is to be provided to elderly people by social supports is shared in Norwegian Society. Particularly, it is very important that they have shared the idea that intention and dignity of elderly people are respected.
