アリエス(Philippe Ariès)やN. ポストマン(Neil Postman)らによって相対化され、近代的子ども観という呼称が一般的になった。この相対性という言 説とともに、我が国においては1970年代以降のいわゆる子ども問題と相俟って、近代的子ども観の動 揺に関する戸惑いや懸念などが表明され、子ども学という学問領域に対する認知と期待も広まっている。 しかし、未だ動揺は解消されず、新たな“子ども” 及び“子ども-大人関係” を定位するには至ってい ない。 本稿では、まず、近代的子ども観の創出の意義とその後を辿りながら、子どもの意義が相対的なもの であることを改めて確認する。次に、今後の社会の在り方として我われにはどのような価値志向が選択 可能か、そしてその価値志向のもとで子どもの意義とそれに対応する教育をどのように捉え直すかにつ
